Chapter 10

After the guys left, Jesse wandered around the suite for a while, tidying up, lost in his thoughts. He liked to clean when he was upset or nervous. It gave him a sense of purpose and a twisted sense of peace. This was the first time he was alone with Melody and he was nervous, even though she was sleeping. All he wanted to do was crawl in bed beside her and hold her. He felt the pull of a kindred spirit tugging at him. In such a short time, this spunky little wisp melted his heart and gave him hope that happiness, no; happy endings could exist in this crazy fucked up world.

After the living room was cleaned up, he wandered into her room, quickly checking on her sleeping form, before heading into the bathroom they had spent time together in. He looked around and began picking up the towels and the T-shirt and sweatpants she had discarded earlier. He couldn’t help but hold up the shirt to his face, inhaling the soft sent of vanilla and sugar from the soap she had used. He threw the linens in the corner for the maid service and wandered back into the bedroom, still holding the shirt and sweats. Wandering to the side of the bed, quietly as he could, he sank down into the stuffed chair beside it. He could hear the soft sounds of her breathing. Her eyes seemed to flicker back and forth and every once in a while she would twitch. He wondered what she was dreaming about.

Jesse laid his head against the back of the chair and watched her sleep, the need to be close, undeniable. He closed his eyes and drifted off, listening to the little sounds she made in her sleep.

Jesse sat up with a start and glanced at the clock, it was just after 1:00am. He must have fallen asleep. He rubbed his face, trying to wake himself up when he heard the soft sound of whimpering coming from the bed, what must have woken him up.

“No, please, don’t…” Melody cried out. He froze where he sat. She began to thrash in the bed, her cries intensifying. “Hurts…stop!” Jesse realized she was dreaming, no, having a nightmare really. There was no one else in the bedroom. “Please! Don’t!” He looked around; the guys weren’t back yet from their trip into town. Melody continued to toss and turn, crying softly in her sleep. Jesse wasn’t sure what to do, should he try and wake her up?

“Melody,” he whispered. “Melody, wake up!” he said again, louder this time. “You’re dreaming baby girl; you’re okay, wake up!” She continued to cry and thrash. Jesse stood and took the two steps to the bed, hesitating. He remembered hearing somewhere you shouldn’t try and wake someone who is dreaming.

“Ahh…!” cried out Melody. That’s it; he couldn’t stand by and see her like that. He climbed up next to her on the bed, and shook her shoulder.
